Kona man charged with numerous offenses in crime spree

A 38-year-old Kailua-Kona man is facing numerous charges after a crime spree Wednesday that encompassed both East and West Hawaii.

Joshua Hams was arrested just before 1:40 p.m. Wednesday at home on Kalamauka Street in Kailua-Kona. Police say he committed multiple crimes that spanned four police districts.

This afternoon at 1:30 p.m. Kona Criminal Investigation Section detectives charged Ham with the following crimes:

• auto theft

• three counts of armed robbery

• attempted armed robbery

• first-degree property damage

• seven counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a separate felony

• four counts of felon in possession of a firearm

• second-degree unauthorized entry to a dwelling

• three counts of first-degree terroristic threatening

• second-degree terroristic threatening

• three counts of second-degree reckless endangering

• seven counts of second-degree property damage

• third-degree property damage

• two counts of fourth-degree theft in the fourth-degree

• reckless driving

• leaving the scene of an accident that caused property damage

• resisting an order to stop vehicle

• violating probation

Hams is currently being held at the Kona police cellblock without bail on the probation violation. Bail was set at $812,000 on the remaining charges.

His initial court appearance is set for Friday morning in Kona District Court.
